Getting to Know World Vision and Advocacy Department

Miriam College demands for the obligatory internship before any student can magnificently fulfill her 4 years of study. Together with the hands-on internship a student must create a blog to write all her daily experiences at the internship site.

As part of my Bachelor’s Degree fulfillment, I have to accomplish the 200 required internship hours at the World Vision Head Office located in Quezon City. In this blog report, I will share to you my daily experiences from April 7, 2014 to May 14, 2014 (estimated time). My internship job, duties and requirements were to the Advocacy Department. Here in the blog, I will share all my experiences that the institution has inculcate me and will teach me in the next days of my internship.

Above all things, as an intern here in World Vision I should know the nature of work that the organization does, who are they and in what areas they’re involved.

Organizational Structure

Advocacy Public & Partnership Department

What comes into your mind when you hear the word Advocacy? Is it support? Activism? Encouragement?

That is the one million dollar question that is raised by our supervisor, Ms. Gem, when we had our initial orientation to the department. She said that Advocacy is not just wearing a statement t-shirt saying (for example) “I support breastfeeding”  to say that you are already an advocate of breastfeeding but the real advocacy is that you are able to affect and change policies towards to what you are advocating for.

The department, to which I belong, works towards to serve as the voice for the children’s well-being and protection. Also, address various structural and systematic causes of poverty by changing policies. Together with their Transformational development approach they are giving voices to the world’s most vulnerable humankind, which are the children. They help in making the needs of the children more visible to those who can and should be meeting them.
