A Walk to Remember: Week Three

Week Three

For the past two weeks of my internship I haven’t felt that I’m currently doing my practicum due to the Holy Week vacation and I’m still adjusting to the work environment in the office.

Last April 22, Ara, Mallory and I started to work on the different House/Senate bills and Republic Acts focused on children in these areas: Education, Health, Nutrition, Disaster Risk Reduction-Climate Change Adaptation (DRR-CCA), Peace Building, Economic Development and Child Protection.

On the following day, together with my co-interns in the Advocacy Department, we followed up the invitations for the event that is spearheaded by the Child Health Now (CHN) department on May 7, 2014.

The highlight of this week is that we had a meeting with the Communication interns. We were tasked to simplify the main tool that the organization will be using in the Children's Learning Event this May 2014 and make the material to be more child friendly for documentation and monitoring whether our government is fulfilling its duty towards a certain thematic cluster such as Special Protection – Child Labor, Special Protection – Child In Conflict with the Law and many more.

The main objectives of this event are:
1.     Strengthen children relationship with God, family and community.
2.     To understand the process on CRC monitoring and be able to contribute in the report.
3.     Sharing of success stories/ good practices on child participation (Education, SNC, ECAP, Econ/CoMsCA, Health, Advocacy, CFDRR, Protection, Comms and etc.)
4.  To better understand the true essence of child participation, child focused  disaster risk reduction, environmental issues and promotion of children’s rights.
         5.   Strengthen relationship and camaraderie among other child representatives
